As our merry band of snappers has grown, it has become noticed that there is significant interest shown by various members in more specialised branches of our art. Our 'set' programme is designed to appeal to most people most of the time but it is obvious that we can cover no one subject in great depth. So the idea of SIGs is an attempt to satisfy the more core needs of the study of a number of genres and at the same time not burden other members whose interests lie elswhere.
Forum rules
Not everyone in the club has the same interests as everyone else. To cater for this, several sub-groups have been started to concentrate on specific genres. Usually, they will meet informally on a night other than Thursday. If you have an interest in any of these groups, please contact the member identified as leading the group.
Group meetings will take place on nights other than the normal Thursday club night and will be held - where possible - at a 'venue of no cost' such as a local pub. Our favourite is the Great Malvern Hotel (Graham Rd., Malvern - by the traffic lights, town centre), who love us because we meet there a lot, they sell us beer and charge us nothing for the room we use. If a group becomes too large for their room (greater than 15, say) we will need to hire a room at the Vale, which willcost the club so is a last resort.
In the same manner as other club activiites, there is no need to state your desire to attend any SIG - just turn up. If you are not a member, the usual £3 visitor fee will apply for up to four meetings

One or two of the more-experienced members of the club will provide tuition or assistance.

Contemporary
There's a lot of debate about what 'contemporary' means in the photographic world. In this group, led by Trevor Bell LRPS (TrevorB), perhaps the mists will clear...

Portraiture
This is where discussion and images of portrait work will be found. The group usually meets on the third Wednesday of the month at the Vale Community Centre We found a new leader for the group - he is a non-club member; a professional portrait photographer and really keen to share his knowledge at no cost to the club.

Photo Cafe
The idea of the Café is to provide an opportunity for members to meet informally to talk about photography, there is no prepared, formal input. If members have any questions or things they need help with then they are encouraged to come along and, if appropriate, bring cameras or laptops and we will try and thrash out any problems together. A wide variety of issues and questions can be addressed, such as regarding technique, equipment, software etc. and members, regardless of their expertise and experience are encouraged to attend. Each Café will need a few experienced photographers to come along and provide some help and support.
