Lost camera

Postby tonyb » Sun Jun 14, 2020 3:16 pm

I seem to have lost/misplaced my Canon G5X camera in the last couple of weeks.
Due to lockdown we have not been very far apart from walks around the local area, and in the last week or so a few trips up to town from the Link.
The last pictures I downloaded were at the end of April and I know I used it in Rose Bank Garden a couple of weeks ago.
Does anyone know how I can report this loss or even if it is possible to now. Does the Insurance Company need a report number from the Police ? Now that we do not have a working Police Station is it possible to check whether it has been found ?

Sorry to hear about the lost camera Tony. If it were me, I would just try phoning 101 (general police enquiries who should then be able to put you through to the closest police station).

After speaking to my insurance company I was told to contact "Report my Loss" as they make the info available to the Police.
This gives me a report that I can submit along with my claim.
It costs £4.95 and takes a couple of minutes to complete online.

That sounds a bit odd, why should you pay to report something to another agency.
If you have told the insurance company what has happened I cannot see why you cannot make a claim.
Your insurance policy should clarify what you can claim for.
Good luck.

I get the impression you cannot report losses to the Police any longer. No Police station in Malvern know.
So I did what the insurance company required to get a report number and a copy of the report which I did online.

Yes, you can still report lost or found items to the police. Well, at least the presence of the on-line form that you can fill in on the West Mercia Police website would suggest so.

Thanks for all the replies.
I filled in the form on "Report my Loss" site as required by the insurance company and e-mailed them a copy.
I had a phone call today from them and they said that they had passed the claim on to SBS who would phone me to arrange settling the claim.
A new camera is coming tomorrow from WEX via courier. Could not have had better service.

That sounds like a result Tony.
Hope new camera arrives soon, look forward to seeing what it produces.

Cheers Bill.
I was quite amazed at how quickly it all went through. A total of about 3 days from finding it missing to (hopefully) receiving a replacement.
Just waiting for the courier.
